01How net salary is calculated
How net salary is calculated
Gross is the basic salary plus allowances. Social insurance is withheld at 11% of the insurance salary, which is the gross clamped between a floor and a ceiling. Income tax is then charged progressively on the gross less that contribution. Net is the gross less both.

What the employer pays
On top of the gross salary the employer contributes 18.75% of the insurance salary. That is the number to budget against when hiring, not the gross.
05Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Is social insurance charged on the whole salary?
No. It is charged on the insurance salary, which is capped at 14,500 EGP a month. Above that the contribution stops growing, so a higher salary does not mean a higher deduction.
Are the tax brackets monthly or annual?
Annual. Applying annual bands to a monthly salary would put almost everybody in the 0% band, so the calculator converts them to their monthly equivalent.
Does this include the employer contribution?
Yes — it is shown separately as the total cost to employer. It is not deducted from the employee.
